ABOUT OUR CLUB

The Blue Ridge Mountains Rotary Club was chartered in April, 1983, and the Club was jointly sponsored by the Charlottesville and Albemarle County Rotary Clubs. Blue Ridge Rotary Club draws its membership from Charlottesville and Albemarle County and meets every Wednesday morning at 7:15 for one hour at Farmington Country Club.

Since its formation, the Club has grown to approximately 75 members; managers and professionals dedicated to the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self." Rotary District 760, the largest in North America, recognized the Blue Ridge Rotary Club as the best among 85 clubs by awarding it the prestigious Governor's Cup in 1986. In 1987, District 760 was divided and our Club became part of District 761 (now known as District 7610), which includes 45 clubs and more than 2500 Rotarians.

The Blue Ridge Rotary Club is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board includes the President, President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, five Directors and the immediate Past-President. Officers and Directors are elected in December and take office the following July. By tradition, the Vice President becomes the President-Elect and ultimately President, therefore the Vice President has two years to prepare for the duties of President.

Celebrating our 22nd anniversary and known as "The Breakfast Club" the Blue Ridge Mountains Rotary Club enjoys good food, good company, and good works in our local and global community.

We are known as a "hands-on" club with ongoing projects including once-a-month soup kitchen dinners at the Salvation Army, and an exchange of 2 Piedmont Virginia Community College students with 2 Argentinian students for a 6-week immersion in each others' home enviornments during the off-school season.

We work with AHIP (Albemarle Housing Improvement) repairing roofs, adding wheelchair ramps, building decks and other light duty contruction improvement processes.
We maintain a stretch of Rt 250 for highway clean-up 4 times a year
We sponsor and house 2 Argentine exchange students in our homes to study @ PVCC during their Summer Session and sponsor 2 PVCC students to travel to Buenos Aires to study during Piedmont's Summer season.
